Check the Grand Prix Circuit's Website for Rules
First and foremost, it’s crucial to check the website of the Grand Prix you are attending. Different circuits have varying rules; for example, we were allowed to bring food and a camera in Belgium, but neither was permitted at Zandvoort. Therefore, the first tip is to thoroughly review the regulations on the website of the circuit you plan to visit, as these rules can differ from one location to another.
Check the Weather When Attending a Grand Prix
One of the most important factors to keep in mind is the weather. If you’re attending a Grand Prix for the whole weekend, you'll be outdoors the entire time. Therefore, it’s essential to check the weather forecast before you go. Make sure to wear layers, especially if the weather is unpredictable.
One crucial item you must not forget when attending a Grand Prix is a poncho. While some grandstands may have a roof, most areas—especially general admission spots—will not provide any cover. So, be sure to bring a poncho to keep yourself dry.
An umbrella is also an option, but it may not be allowed at every circuit, and it could obstruct the view of other attendees. Hence, it’s highly recommended to bring a poncho or rain gear instead.
While it might rain all day at one circuit, the sun could be shining brightly in another country. In this case, it’s important to protect yourself from the sun by bringing sunscreen!
Stay Hydrated and Well-Fed During the Grand Prix
One of the most important aspects of spending a whole day at an event is making sure you eat and drink enough. A Grand Prix weekend can be physically demanding, so ensure you eat well and, especially, drink plenty of water. You can bring your own food, but each Grand Prix also has a fan zone where you can purchase meals. Just keep in mind that prices in these areas can often be quite high.
Additionally, it’s crucial to check the circuit’s website beforehand for the rules. Not all circuits allow you to bring your own food or drinks.
Bring Seating Options for General Admission Areas
Keep in mind that if you have general admission tickets, this means you won’t have a reserved seat. You will often be sitting or standing on grass. Therefore, it’s important to bring something to sit on.
This could be a folding chair, but be aware that these are not allowed at every circuit. Other options you can bring include blankets, towels, or even an extra poncho to sit on. Having something to sit on is not only more comfortable, but it also allows you to stay dry if it rains!
Another important consideration for general admission ticket holders is that you need to arrive at the circuit early if you want to secure a good spot. If you don’t want to lose your place, it might be a good idea to bring your own food so you don’t have to leave your spot. If you’re attending with a group, you can take turns watching the area while someone goes to grab food or drinks.
Fun Extra's to Bring to the Grand Prix
The following items aren’t essential, but they can definitely enhance your experience! When you attend a Grand Prix, you’ll see many people walking around in merchandise. Show your support for your favorite team by wearing some fun F1 merch. By the way, Racing Media Girls also has their own F1 merchandise shop where you can take a look! Click here for the Racing Media Shop.
To complete your outfit, don’t forget to bring a team cap!
Other fun items to consider bringing include a camera! Just keep in mind that this is not allowed at every circuit, and it is only permitted for personal use.
Lastly, it’s a good idea to bring a marker, pen, and paper in case you encounter a driver!
More Handy Extras to Consider for Your Grand Prix Visit
While not essential, here are some additional items that can be very handy:
A Charger with Power Bank: Since you may be taking a lot of photos and videos, your phone battery can drain quickly. A power bank will allow you to recharge your device while at the circuit. Just note that this is not permitted at every venue.
Binoculars: These can enhance your view of the track, allowing you to see the action up close!
Circuit Map: Having a map of the circuit can be very useful. Most circuits have signs that clearly indicate where everything is, but having your own map is always handy. Additionally, many circuits also offer their own apps with maps that show the layout and key points of interest.
