Max Verstappen and Lando Norris are the only two drivers still in contention for the world title! This is something the young Brit could hardly have imagined at the start of the season. After securing three consecutive world championships, Verstappen has one clear goal: to add a fourth title to his name. The championship battle will be decided over the next three races—or perhaps even this weekend. Curious about how Verstappen could seal the title this weekend? Here are all the stats.
Max Verstappen Nears Fourth Title: Norris’s Battle to Keep the Championship Alive
Lando Norris is having an incredible season this year. The MCL38 is a remarkably fast car, and the British team has crafted a machine that performs at a top level. This season, Norris achieved a major milestone by securing his first-ever race win in Miami. But that wasn’t the end of it—so far, he’s claimed victory in three races.
However, could there have been even more wins? McLaren has missed out on several potential victories and podium finishes. At times, the mistakes came from Norris himself, but on other occasions, he fell victim to McLaren’s often-questioned strategic decisions. Team principal Andrea Stella has even admitted that their focus has been entirely on winning the Constructors' Championship, stating that Norris’s individual title hopes were never the team’s top priority this year.
Despite the challenges, Norris continues to prove his skill and determination in what has been a breakthrough season for the young Brit.
Red Bull, on the other hand, has one clear objective: securing Max Verstappen’s fourth world title. Their hopes of clinching the Constructors' Championship have been slim from the start, largely due to Sergio Perez’s inconsistency in delivering strong points finishes. Now, with McLaren and Ferrari pulling ahead in the standings, the Constructors’ title seems out of reach.
While Verstappen has had a strong season, Red Bull hasn’t displayed the same dominance we’ve come to expect from them in recent years. Despite this, the Dutchman has managed to secure eight race wins so far, proving his exceptional skill and determination. His focus remains singular: winning the World Championship.
What Needs to Happen for Verstappen to Win the Championship in Las Vegas?
The title is almost within reach for Verstappen, while for Lando Norris, it’s all about survival.
There are still 86 points up for grabs in the next 3 races plus the sprint race. If Norris wants to have a chance at winning, he will have to give it his all in Las Vegas. If Verstappen finishes with 2 points more than Norris, the Dutchman will secure the title. The current gap between the two is 62 points. After the Las Vegas Grand Prix, only 60 points remain available. So, if Verstappen earns 2 more points than Norris this weekend, Norris will no longer be able to catch Verstappen, even if he wins every race and Verstappen scores nothing.
