The Future of F1 Circuits: How Long Do They Stay?
The Formula 1 calendar keeps getting longer. The very first Formula 1 season ever consisted of just seven races, and only four of these original tracks remain on the calendar: Belgium, Monaco, Monza, and Silverstone. Over the years, we’ve seen many circuits come and go. The other three original circuits; Indianapolis 500, France, and Switzerland have long disappeared from the calendar. Curious to see how long the current circuits will stay on the calendar? Be sure to read on!

Mexican Grand Prix - 2025
The Mexican Grand Prix will no longer be on the calendar for much longer, with this year potentially being its last. The Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez is a popular circuit, but the question remains whether it will retain its appeal following the departure of Mexican driver Sergio Pérez. Pérez will not be on the grid in 2025 and will be replaced by Liam Lawson at Red Bull. This raises the question of whether the Grand Prix will be extended beyond 2025.
Formula 1 has confirmed that the Mexican Grand Prix will remain on the calendar through 2025. While the original contract was set to expire in 2022, the missed 2020 race due to the pandemic extended the deal by a year, and this has now been further extended to 2025.
Imola Grand Prix - 2025
Mexico is not the only circuit that will make its final appearance on the calendar this year. The Imola Grand Prix, not to be confused with the Italian Grand Prix at Monza, is also on the calendar until 2025. This does not mean the contract won't be extended, but as of now, no extension has been confirmed. The Italian circuit made its return during the COVID-19 crisis, securing a multi-year contract. However, the long-term future of both Imola and Monza remains uncertain.
This is bad news for Italian fans, as well as for Ferrari, which receives immense support from the passionate Italian Tifosi.

Dutch Grand Prix - 2026
The Dutch Grand Prix is confirmed to be on the calendar for the last time in 2026. The Netherlands is one of the few countries that does not receive government funding to host a Grand Prix, which means the race will disappear from the calendar after 2026. The final year will feature a sprint race as well. Zandvoort, an old circuit, made its return in 2021. The popularity of Formula 1 has soared thanks to the rise of Dutch driver Max Verstappen.
Austin Grand Prix - 2026
The United States Grand Prix has been on the calendar since 2012! It is an iconic circuit with many turns. The track never fails to provide some thrilling overtaking action. However, it now faces competition from the popular Grand Prix of Miami and Las Vegas. Formula 1 is growing in popularity in America, largely due to the Netflix series "Drive to Survive." Whether the Austin circuit will be extended is still unknown.

Spanish Grand Prix - 2026
The future of the Grand Prix in Barcelona is still uncertain, but what we do know is that a new race will take place in Spain: the Madrid Grand Prix. It will be on the calendar starting in 2026 and could potentially become the new Spanish Grand Prix, which may lead to the cancellation of the Barcelona Grand Prix in favor of the Madrid event.
Azerbaijan Grand Prix - 2026
Azerbaijan has been on the calendar since 2016 and announced in 2023 that the Grand Prix will continue at least until 2026. The Baku City Circuit is a track through the beautiful streets of Baku, featuring a mix of wide, open sections and tight, twisty corners. The circuit is 6.003 km long and consists of 51 laps.
