Teams and drivers will have just one hour to assess how their car performs on the track and fine-tune their setups. After FP1, the Sprint Qualifying session will take place. This session is shorter than a regular qualifying and has different tire rules. For example, in Q1, drivers are required to use specific tire compounds, which adds a layer of strategy. (For further clarification, Sprint Qualifying is typically a single, 30-minute session that determines the grid for the Sprint Race.
On Saturday, the Sprint Race will take place. The number of laps in a Sprint Race is much fewer than the original Grand Prix. This is typically around 100 km (approximately 30 minutes of racing), so there is usually no need for a pit stop. After the Sprint Race, the drivers will take part in another Qualifying session, this time for the Grand Prix that will take place on Sunday. This qualifying session follows the usual format, with drivers competing for the grid positions for the main event of the weekend.

Miami Grand Prix 2024
In 2024, the Miami Grand Prix weekend was once again a sprint weekend. Drivers and teams had just one practice session to prepare. Verstappen adapted well, setting the fastest time in sprint qualifying, leaving Leclerc in second place and Pérez behind him. This was also the exact order in which the trio finished the sprint race.
The sprint race also went well for Daniel Ricciardo—he qualified P4 and managed to finish fourth as well! Speaking of P4, Lando Norris had a tougher race. He was hit at the start, sending him off track and forcing him to retire.
After the sprint race, it was time for qualifying for Sunday’s Grand Prix. Once again, Verstappen delivered a flawless performance, securing pole position. Lining up beside him in P2 was Leclerc, with his teammate Sainz starting just behind in P3.
The race started calmly until Magnussen and Sargeant went off track, bringing out a safety car. Most drivers had already pitted, which put Lando Norris in the lead, allowing him to make a free pit stop. His restart was strong, but Verstappen was right on his tail. However, Norris kept his cool, controlled the race, and crossed the line to claim his first-ever Formula 1 victory!
